Alaska Homelessness Data

All current data dashboards are developed and maintained by the Alaska HMIS Lead Agency, Institute for Community Alliances (ICA), on behalf of the two Alaska Continuums of Care. For questions or additional information about the data dashboards, email the AKHMIS Helpdesk: AKHMIS@icalliances.org

demographic information

Information in the Alaska Communities Dashboard does not account for homeless services organizations that do not participate in AKHMIS, such as Domestic Violence providers. Program participants self-report all information. No documentation is required to verify a participant’s response in AKHMIS.

system performance measures (SPM)

HUD requires CoCs, in coordination with ESG Program recipients and all other homeless assistance stakeholders within the CoC region, to regularly measure their progress in meeting the needs of people experiencing homelessness within the CoC region and to report this progress to HUD.

HUD uses the system-level performance information as a competitive element in its annual CoC Program Competition and to gauge the state of the homeless response system nationally.

point in time (PIT) Count and Housing Inventory count (hic)

The Point-in-Time (PIT) count is a count of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness on a single night in January.

The Housing Inventory Count (HIC) is a point-in-time inventory of programs within a Continuum of Care that provide beds and units dedicated to serve people experiencing homelessness. It is categorized by five Program Types: Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing, Rapid Re-housing, Safe Haven, and Permanent Supportive Housing.
